Office Carpet Cleaning Heathrow

Okay that’s enough looking out of the window, back to work.

Commercial carpet cleaning at Heathrow, and what a job for the weekend.

Rest room before carpet cleaning

Without regular maintenance you are asking for trouble. Sometimes there are limitations to what I can do. This a rest area in an office building that had not been cleaned for a number of years. The usual coffee, tea, food spills and oily work boots thrown in for good measure.

Rest room after carpet cleaning

I did say they may need replacing, undersell and over deliver is not such a bad thing. Having said that, it was not the most perfect of results throughout. This was due to the traffic lanes and where the chairs have damage the carpet.

When you get a lot of foot fall in the same areas all the time or have sat in that same chair in the same place for  years. you will get damage to the carpet. Soil tracked in off shoes every day abrades the fibres of your carpet. This reflects the light differently, so that sometimes even when a carpet has been cleaned it can still appeared soiled.

Carpeting acts as a filter and when this filter gets  full you have problems. The picture above shows where a swivel chair has been for a long while and combined with soil brought into the building it now looks yellow even thought it has been cleaned. With regular maintenance and some preventive measures you can slow this right down. Think about barrier matting to your building and possibly placing plastic mats under chairs.

All right one last look out of the window.

Not the most glamorous of jobs

Carpet cleaning is not the most glamorous of  jobs, but it pays the bills and I get to meet a lot of different people.

This weeks carpet spotting challenge was definitely not glamorous but there a was variety of such, well vomit, one from a baby and another from a dog.

Pet vomit can be a problematic stain to deal with because of the damage it can cause to the fibres. The ‘recipe’ for vomit varies, the main factor is hydrochloric acid which can re-dye the fibres and set the stain. Dog food contains boiled meat, which a dye colour is added to make it look more tasty, not that the dog cares how it looks.

I think this is known as projectile, I was always amazed at what our kids could throw out.

Here is a tip for you when dealing with this problem. Scrape up as much of the excess you can and then generously cover with Sodium Bicarbonate. This will neutralise and deodorise. Wait until the bicarbonate absorbs and turns brown and then vacuum up. If it is a little crusty underneath, just break this up with a brush and re vacuum.

Size 12 Oil Stains

Spot cleaning in Knightsbridge. Whoop’s a daisy, yes whoop’s a daisy, that’s exactly what the courier said when he walked oil over the carpet in this hallway. Expensive letter, I bet it was a bill as well.

Oil is generally not a problem to remove. I wonder where he went next? Should get him to take some of my business cards with him.

Textile cleaning

Not quite upholstery cleaning, but I am not sure that I do that any more as such, more like textile cleaning. Different day, different fabric. Silk lampshade with pen line drawn down the full length. Not straight forward but silk is a tougher material then it looks.

Commercial carpet cleaning in Fleet

Carpet cleaning test area carried out for commercial client. The usual drink spill and nasty stuff brought in from the bottom of shoes.

The carpets were in a very bad condition and the client was concerned that they may have to replace. I was asked to carry out some test areas after I explained I was confident that I could improve the carpets but sometimes there are limitations.

All that is needed now is to put a carpet cleaning program in place.

One that starts with soil prevention. Walk off mats should be placed both inside and outside the entrances to the buildings. Mats ideally should be large enough for staff and visitors to take a number of steps across the mat in order to remove dirt and dust from their shoes. Has your elevators carpet in them? Even if the reception area is not carpeted, it is better to have soil removed there and not tracked elsewhere.

Walk off mats should also be placed at the vending areas to help prevent spillages, maybe have some interim cleaning in these areas. Also put a spot and spill program in place. Spots and spills should be reported and dealt with as soon as possible.

The program should be proactive and not only include walk off matting but spot removal and effective vacuuming. General office cleaning does not allow enough time for effective vacuuming. The reality is that the cleaners will only remove litter from the surface.

I am sure that if you would like me to take a look at your premises, together we could put in place a more successful carpet maintenance program. One that is preventive, periodic and restorative.

How you can remove candle wax

I sometimes get calls to remove candle wax spills, but if your confident enough to have a go yourself here a quick guide. Good luck.

This all you require.

  • Brown paper bag and an iron
  • Break off any large pieces before applying heat
  • Cut paper bag larger than the wax spill and place on top
  • With iron on high setting, run the iron over the bag with short strokes.
  • As the wax melts into paper rotate the bag to continue absorbing wax.
  • Continue until no more wax melts into bag.
